Cheick Omar Diallo, Communications Taskforce Leader and Spokesperson, Tilenga-EACOP (Uganda/Tanzania)

“Any lasting regional commitment requires that we first develop profitable, long-term projects that create jobs and provide local skills.

The Tilenga project clearly meets the Company’s investment criteria in terms of technical costs, emissions and profitability. 93% of the workers at Tilenga are Ugandan, and more than three million hours of training have been provided to employees and subcontractors since mid-2021. As a result, the project will help ameliorate poverty in Uganda, where 20% of the population lives on less than $2 a day.

The Company acts to create shared value in a variety of ways: developing our host communities, promoting fiscal transparency, battling corruption and making a strong commitment to young people, notably by helping them find jobs.

In Uganda, for example, as in our other host countries, we publish an account of all taxes, royalties and bonuses paid to the government, and we invest in projects that promote access to water and renewable power within villages.

We also generate shared value through our efforts to improve overall living conditions in local communities.”
