Exploration & Production - At a Glance 2023

01 Transforming our business to produce more sustainable, reliable and affordable energy

Maintaining a high-quality portfolio with Exploration

Exploration & Production’s successes in 2022 included a series of very positive results for our exploration teams. The year brought many significant oil and gas discoveries in Namibia, Suriname, Cyprus and Brazil.

In Cyprus, discoveries at the Cronos-1 and Zeus-1 wells confirm the extensive gas resources in the western Mediterranean: “I’m hopeful these discoveries will help us promote our strategy of securing Europe’s natural gas supply,” said Romain de la Martinière, Managing Director of TotalEnergies EP Cyprus.

Namibia: The exceptional potential of Venus

The discovery of light oil and associated gas at the Venus prospect, located in Block 2913B, revealed major potential in Namibia’s Orange Basin, which remains significantly underexplored. Preliminary estimates suggest that if upcoming tests prove successful, an initial development phase could lead to oil production as early as 2029. “Venus is a high-impact discovery,” says Emmanuelle Garinet, Vice President Exploration Africa at E&P. “Bringing Venus onstream at a low technical cost with low GHG emissions would bring us closer to our climate ambition and help us write a new chapter in the Company’s growth.''
